Honor Veterans Day

Veterans Day is Tuesday, and the Central Texas area has a variety of events planned to celebrate it. Veterans are encouraged to attend, and all are open to the public.

TEMPLE - New Life Prayer Fellowship Church of God In Christ will have a service in honor of veterans at 10:45 a.m. today at 919 S. 17th St. A meal will be served after the service. For information, call 778-5139.

TEMPLE - The Central Texas Health Care System will honor veterans at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Center. The keynote speaker will be Greg Schannep from U.S. Rep. John Carter’s office. Christian country musician Russ Murphey and the Holland High School band will perform.

TEMPLE - The 14th annual Veteran’s Day Parade is set for 10:40 a.m. Tuesday at Wildcat Football Stadium. Conducted by the Temple High School Air Force JROTC, the event will feature 270 cadets in a Pass-In-Review parade. The THS band will perform, and the San Marcos Air Force will fly WWII aircraft. TEMPLE - There will be a flag ceremony at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Courtney Williams Veterans Home, 1424 Martin Luther King Jr. Lane.

BELTON - The Louis Wayne Qualls Detachment of the Marine Corps League will dedicate the grave of World War I veteran Augustus Clayton Oliver at 10 a.m. Monday at Three Forks Farm, 6200 FM 436.

BELTON - Southwest Elementary School will have a Veterans Day Music Program at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday in the cafeteria at 611 Saunders St.

BELTON - Belton High School will have a Veterans Day Program at 10:15 a.m., 1:05 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the Performing Arts Center at 600 Lake Road. The presentation will be by the BHS Adopt-A-School unit from Fort Hood, the 2-4 Aviation Unit.

BELTON - Waskow High School will have a Veterans Day observance at 11 a.m. Tuesday at 320 N. Blair.

CAMERON - There will be a Veterans Day program at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Performing Arts Center at C.H. Yoe High School, 303 E. 12th St.

FORT HOOD - Monday will be “Take a Vet to School Day” at Clear Creek Elementary School, 4800 Washington St. Guests will include Harry Thrasher, a World War II veteran, and Cleve Schuetzeberg, navy combat rescue swimmer from the Military Child Education Coalition. Dr. Kimberly Gilmore of the History Channel will speak at 11 a.m.; the VetDogs, who train puppies for service, will follow at 11:20 a.m.; various students discuss their roles as military children at 11:40 a.m.; and then veterans in attendance will be recognized at the noontime parent picnic.
