Girls teams from Belton and Cameron Yoe and the Bruceville-Eddy boys team qualified. Individually, Jarrell’s Emmanuel Villafranco and Nancy Juarez, Bruceville-Eddy’s Arianna Rodriguez, Academy’s Emily Koenig and Salado’s Brittney Frazier and Lindsy Martin advanced.
Led by runner-up Regan Tindell, the Belton Lady Tigers earned a third-place finish at the Class 5A Region II meet at Vandergriff Park in Arlington.
Tindell, who finished fifth at state last season, set a new personal best with her 10:51 finish.
Belton’s boys finished 12th and Temple’s Romeo Guajardo was 122nd in 17:34.
At the 3A Region III meet in Humble, the Cameron Lady Yoe had the same amount of points as champion Lufkin Hudson but finished second on a tiebreaker. Alisa Pena, Guadalupe Bustamante and Leticia Bustamante finished in the top 15 for the Lady Yoe.
In the boys race, Yoe’s Victor Canizales finished 11th in 17:01.4, missing a spot at state by one second.
At the 2A Region II meet, Bruceville-Eddy’s boys qualified for state for the second straight season with a second-place finish. Sophomore Tye Doty was second in 16:29 and teammates Art Castillo and Greg Bostick also placed in the top 15.
In the girls race, Rodriguez finished third in 12:30. She was fifth at state last season.
At the Region IV girls race in San Antonio, four area runners placed in the top 10 to advance. Koenig was fifth in 12:34, Juarez was seventh in 12:41 and Frazier and Martin were ninth in 12:42 and 10th in 12:44, respectively.
Koenig was eighth at state last season, while Martin was 19th and Frazier was 23rd.
In the boys race, Villafranco was sixth in 17:12.
Saturday’s schedule at state will be 2A girls at 10:50 a.m., 2A boys at 11:10 a.m., 3A girls at 11:40 a.m. and 5A girls at 1:20 p.m.
