Salado volleyball seeks to march forward to 2A state tournament

SAN ANTONIO - Three down, four to go.

The No. 7-ranked Salado Lady Eagles’ look to keep their school-record volleyball season going today when they meet George West (23-10) at 1 in the Class 2A Region IV semifinals in San Antonio’s Northeast Blossom Athletic Center.

The winner faces either Wallis Brazos (31-9) or No. 10 Vanderbilt Industrial at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the same site. The winner of Saturday’s match advances to the 2A state tournament to be held on Nov. 20 and 22 at Texas State’s Strahan Coliseum in San Marcos.

During its playoff run, Salado (35-5), ranked No. 13 at the beginning of the playoffs, has beaten No. 25 Weimar, three-time champion No. 12 Poth and No. 3 Hallettsville to reach the regional semifinals for the first time in school history.

Senior Danielle Hazzard had 12 kills, sophomore Jenna Sebek had nine kills and three blocks, sophomore Hadley Joiner had seven kills and 14 digs, senior Lindsey Coffey had 12 digs and senior Kaitlyn Ruth had 35 assists against Hallettsville.
