Ms. Chamlee died Friday, Nov. 14, in a local hospital.
She was born Jan. 5, 1934, to Glenn Arvin and Hazel Meharg Combest in Meridian. She was raised and educated in Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1951. She graduated from Baylor University in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in music in 1987. She taught piano lessons for more than 60 years even up until her death. She taught at Temple College for 20 years. She used her musical talents for many philanthropic causes throughout Texas. She was a member of Child Help, Inc., First United Methodist Church of Temple, Temple Lions Club, Piano Guild, Temple Music Club, TMEA, CAC, TCT, Secondary Sunday Supplement, Temple City Federated Clubs, Temple College Music Collage, Piano Ensemble and Texas Artist in Residence.
Survivors include two daughters, Betsi Chamlee and Meg Pitrucha, both of Temple; a brother, Otis C. “Buck” Ray Jr. of Baton Rouge, La.; two sisters, Susan Stephens of Copperas Cove and Jean Ray Morrison of Gatesville; and five grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Ann Chamlee Piano Fund, c/o Extraco Bank.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple.
