Santa Pal is one such project - a partnership between the Kiwanis Club of Temple and the Belton Help Center that provides sponsorship for families who would otherwise go without. They’ve received more than 100 applications in the last two weeks.
The Salvation Army is providing countless opportunities for giving this season. They are participating in Angel Tree, Thanksgiving and Christmas food boxes, and Toys for Tots.
“Our goal is that every parent is able to meet the demand so their kid can have a Christmas,” Capt. Martha Burchett said. “There’s such a great need in the community. Need reassurance that you’re on Santa’s good list this year? Following is a list of projects where you can spread the good cheer.
Bright Light Project – Lighthouse Ministries (foster care agency)
The Bright Light Project has trees decorated with ornaments with foster children’s names, ages and top three wish list items.
Trees will be located at: Ryan’s Restaurant in Killeen, Compass Bank in Salado, Belton and Temple, 1st Salado Bank and the Lighthouse Office located at 213 Mill Creek Drive, Suite 175 in Salado.

Rescue Elves
Temple Fire & Rescue tries to help as many families as it can through its Rescue Elves program. Fire & Rescue accepts new toys, clothing for toddlers or monetary donations at Central Fire Station at 505 N. 3rd St. Checks should be made out to Firefighters Union No. 846.
For those who need assistance, applications are approved through the Help Center, 11 N. 2nd in Temple.
Ronald McDonald House
Ronald McDonald House provides parents a place to stay when their children are hospitalized.
People wishing to donate can participate in Light a Light, Share a Night and purchase a Christmas light in memory of a loved one. Wish lists are available for the family’s houses.
The Ronald McDonald gala is from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25. Ronald McDonald and Santa Claus will be present. For information call (254) 770-0910 or visit www.mh-temple.com.
Salvation Army
Angel Trees are located at the Temple Mall, Temple Wal-Mart and the Temple Bealls. The Salvation Army is also participating in Toys for Tots.
Non-perishable foods or $25 gift cards to HEB or Wal-Mart are being accepted for Christmas food boxes. Applications for the Christmas food boxes are due by Dec. 5 and donations will be received until Dec. 15 at the Salvation Army on Avenue M in Temple.

Santa Pal – Kiwanis Club of Temple and the Help Center
Families apply for Christmas present sponsorship. Applications will be received until Dec. 12 at the Temple Help Center, 11 N. 2nd, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Applicants must bring a photo ID, proof of income for last 30 days or a printout from the Department of Human Services, a bill showing proof of address and Social Security cards and birth certificates for all children. The program is for children between 18 months and 12 years old.
Santa Sack – Mental Health Mental Retardation
A project for clients of MHMR that helps these families have a special holiday celebration. Local businesses and residents can adopt families or individuals.
There are three ways MHMR can use the community’s help: Pick up a wish list and sponsor someone in need ($25 limit), make a tax-deductible monetary donation or volunteer your time. On Dec. 6, gifts will be sorted and prepared for delivery. Call Cindy at MHMR, Santa Sack coordinator, at 254-298-7044.
Santa’s Workshop
The project provides gifts for military families experiencing financial difficulties at Fort Hood. Sponsor a child by making a $30 donation or volunteer at the workshop.

Tri-County Toy Run
The motorcycle ride will take place at noon Sunday, Dec. 7. A free breakfast is offered at 9:30 a.m. Admission price to the ride is a dollar donation or new toy.
