Blackburn threw three touchdown passes and Johnson ran for three more scores as the Bulldogs eliminated the Lions from the Class A Division II playoffs with a 47-8 bi-district rout at Wildcat Stadium.
Bosqueville (8-3) advances to meet Burton in the area round at 7:30 p.m. Friday at College Station A&M Consolidated’s Tigerland Stadium. Granger, a Class A Division I state semifinalist last year, closed its season at 4-7.
The Bulldogs simply utilized their ample weapons to roll up 479 yards total offense - 240 passing, 239 rushing - and their defense came away with four turnovers and held the Lions to less than 200 yards.
Johnson rushed for a game-high 167 yards on 16 carries and scored on runs of 49, 2 and 13. Blackburn was effective through the air, hitting 17 of 28 attempts for 240 yards without an interception.
Johnson put the Bulldogs on the board on just the second play of the game, slipping through the middle of the Lion defense and racing 49 yards for touchdown.
The Bulldogs added another one when Blackburn connected with D.J. McCormick along the sideline and set sail for a 63-yard tally. That completed a 97-yard drive in nine plays and gave the Bulldogs at 14-0 with 8:07 left in the half.
Granger cut that margin with an impressive 13-play, 85-yard scoring drive. Jaron Davis opened the march with a 23-yard rush. Quarterback Kenny Sifuentes completed three passes - a pair to Andrew Aleman for 24 and 13 yards and an 11-yarder to Chaston Kubacak. Sifuentes also converted a fourth-and-1 inside the 5, which ultimately led to Aleman’s 1-yard plunge into the end zone.
Davis muscled his way across the goal line for the two-point conversion to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 14-8 with 2:53 to go in the half.
Bosqueville regained the momentum before halftime with a 66-yard drive in eight plays capped by a 21-yard strike from Blackburn to Cameron Hoffmeyer. The Bulldogs failed on a two-point try and led 20-8 at the break.
The second half was all Bosqueville. Granger managed just two first downs and 73 yards of offense in the final 24 minutes.
A turnover on the second-half kickoff led to a 2-yard touchdown for Johnson and a 26-8 lead.
