Shoemaker leads 18-6, but John Tyler rallies to deny Grey Wolves first playoff win

MIDLOTHIAN - The Killeen Shoemaker Grey Wolves fell short in their playoff debut.

Shoemaker couldn’t make an early 18-6 lead stand as the Tyler John Tyler Lions roared back for the Class 5A Division II bi-district playoff victory at Midlothian ISD Stadium.

The Grey Wolves (4-7) hadn’t reached the playoffs in their nine-year existence before this season.

The Lions (5-6) held Shoemaker scoreless over the final 34 minutes. Grey Wolves quarterback Jameill Showers threw two touchdown passes to Derrick Mays, the last one coming with 10:05 left in the second quarter to give the Grey Wolves an 18-6 lead.

John Tyler took the lead on Charles Jackson’s 26-yard TD run with 8:02 left. Then, Ricky Collins scored his second touchdown of the game on a 14-yard run with 2:31 left to seal the win.
