Four-game loss to Hutchinson ends TC's volleyball season at NJCAA nationals

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - The Temple College Lady Leopards’ trip to the NJCAA Division I volleyball tournament was once again cut short.

The No. 12-seeded Lady Leopards fell to No. 13 Hutchinson (Kan.) 23-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 in the losers’ bracket on Friday at Mid-America Center. With the loss, the Lady Leopards ended their season at 26-14. Hutchinson advanced and defeated No. 9 Frank Phillips later Friday.

Temple was led by right-side hitter Sara Heger with 15 kills and seven block assists. She had a match-high .467 hitting percentage. Outside hitter Melissa Padgett put away 11 kills and added 18 digs, one solo block and two block assists. Middle blocker Heather Lisenbe posted 11 kills, two solo blocks and three block assists. Setter Cheyenne Craigen distributed 39 assists and had 14 digs, and libero Cami Statsny had 13 digs.

Leading the charge for Hutchinson was freshman outside hitter Karol Marins with 15 kills and three block assists.

The Lady Leopards were undone by 32 attacking errors and 18 blocking errors.
