She’s 92 years old, and it hurts her to stand.

“But I want to do what I can to help,” said Luzell Kelly of Belton.

So when her church, Nolanville FUMC, started to plan its December craft sale, she decided she would make a quilt.

“It’s not much,” she said. “But I hope it brings in something. We’re a small church, and there are expenses that need attention.”

The queen-size quilt is in the Friendship Pattern, and along with its companion lap quilt, it contains 62 names of congregation members.

“My granddaughter painted the names on,” Ms. Kelly said. “I imagine this will be something families will want to have for children and grandchildren.”

Quilt making has always been a part of Ms. Kelley’s life. She learned the craft from her mother more than 70 years ago.

If she had to guess, she’d say she’s made at least 50 of them in her life.
