Burial will follow in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with full military honors.
Mr. Rhodes died Monday, Nov. 24, in a Copperas Cove nursing home.
He was born April 13, 1939, to Virgil Rhodes Sr. and Nancy Pittman Rhodes in McGehee, Ark. He grew up in McGehee and after graduating high school he joined the U.S. Army, serving for 30 years retiring at Fort Hood. He made Killeen his home. He worked with Lynn and Steve Provost at S&L Lawnmower in their shop, fixing small engines of all types.
Survivors include a son, Virgil Rhodes III of Killeen; a stepdaughter, Alexandria Patterson of the U.S. Air Force; a brother, Jimmie L. Rhodes of Hephizabh, Ga.; a sister, Mary Lee Hinn of Los Angles, Calif.
