The city of Temple kicks off its Bells & Bows Christmas celebration tonight with the annual tree lighting at the Temple Municipal Building, then festivities get into full gear with the Christmas parade, which will wind its way through downtown streets.

Mary Alice Marshall serves as grand marshal for this year’s parade.

“It’s such a wonderful thing. I think that’s what keeps me all happy at this time,” Mrs. Marshall said.

“I’m just excited.”

Other activities tonight include the SPJST Christmas Open House, 520 N. Main St., during which visitors can enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides, Christmas caroling and a first-person review by Mary Frances Chupick of her book, “Invitation to Cat Spring.”

Festivities during the week help Temple usher in the holiday season, and each evening features special music at the Santa Fe Depot gazebo.
