Mr. Weiner was born Jan. 13, 1926, to Isaac and Freida Weiner in Galveston. He graduated from Ball High School in Galveston. After a semester at the University of Texas he joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a pharmacist’s mate on a submarine tender stationed at Guam and Saipan.

He returned to college and majored in journalism. He was a staffer on the Daily Texan for four years, serving a stint as sports editor, and was a member of Sigma Delta Chi. He moved to Denver in late 1962, to join the Denver Post. He married Phyllis Alleana Nibling on Nov. 22, 1963. He took early retirement from the Post in 1982 to accept an editorial position at the Temple Daily Telegram. He was in charge of the Telegram’s annual Pioneer Day celebration, which he continued to do for almost 10 years after retiring in 1991.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years of Temple; two sons, Alan Weiner of Seattle and Larry Weiner of Garland; two brothers, Sam Weiner and William Weiner, both of Houston; a sister, Trudi Brickman of Houston; and two grandchildren.
