Chester Longacre

Private services for Chester Longacre, 87, of Temple will be held at a later date.

The body will be cremated.

Mr. Longacre died Sunday, Dec. 14, in Temple.

He was born March 1, 1921, to John and Nannie Longacre in Tyler. He married Joy in May of 1941. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, became a Radioman and Tail Gunner in the PBY Flying Boats and served overseas in the Bomber Squadron (VPB-15) at Saipan, serving for 11 years. He was later employed by the Magnolia Oil Company Research Lab in Dallas in 1959. He retired in 1985, from the Mobil Oil Company after working in 13 states and all around the world. He was a member of the VFW. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Joy Dunnigan in 2001.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years of Temple; a son, Phillip Longacre of Honolulu; a daughter, Beverly Lombardo of Beaumont; a brother, Earl Longacre of Garrison; a sister, Bonnie Scurlock of Rockdale; and two grandsons.

Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple is in charge of arrangements.
