Belton wins on Braeuer’s buzzer-beater
BELTON - Eric Braeuer’s layup at the buzzer gave the Belton Tigers a 57-55 overtime win over Austin Crockett on Friday at Tiger Gym.
The Cougars hit two free throws with 15 seconds left in overtime to tie the game before Braeuer drove the lane for an uncontested layup.
With 18 seconds left in regulation, Belton’s Jeff Lepak scored to tie the game before Crockett’s potential game-winning jumper missed and sent the game into overtime.
The Tigers (6-10) held a three-point lead after the third quarter but allowed an 11-0 run in the fourth to fall behind before Lepak’s basket tied the game.
“I’m more pleased with our execution in regulation (to tie the game),” Belton coach John Osborn said. “If we don’t do that, we don’t come out with a win. We really executed defensively when we needed to.”
Braeuer scored 13 points and David Ash had 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Belton hosts Cedar Park Vista Ridge at 1:30 p.m. Monday.
