Burial will be in Temple Garden of Memories.
Mr. Coursey was born to Curtis Vick Sr. and Thelma Coursey. He attended Temple public schools and received his doctorate from Huston-Tillotson College in Austin. He was a member of Eighth Street Baptist Church in Temple. He served five years in the National Guard and 20 years with the U.S. Army. While serving in the Vietnam War, he received a Purple Heart, and during Operation Desert Storm he received an award on June 5, 1991, for outstanding dedication, sacrifice and distinguished contributions. He worked for the U.S. Post Office, retiring after 25 years of service. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
Survivors include three sons, Channon Curtis Coursey and Chawn Christopher Coursey, both of Austin, and Nathan Blake Coursey of Hearne; a daughter, Renae Sanders of Austin; an adopted daughter, Cherie McGowan of Schertz; a sister, Loleta Faulkner of Winder, Ga.; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with a wake at 6 p.m.
