Burial will be in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with full military honors.
Mr. Strother died Monday, Dec. 29, in a local nursing center.
He was born July 12, 1939, in Beaumont to Clarence Ellison and Ileta LaMerle Jonesa Strother. He has lived in this area since 1985. He retired from the U.S. Army and also retired from Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Survivors include his wife, Edy Strother of Copperas Cove; two sons, Carey Strother of Kempner and Troy Strother of Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Susan Averette of Kempner; two sisters, Sandy Kerl of Woodville and Barbara Meyers of Livingston.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Second Chance Animal Shelter.
Visitation will be 10-11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
