Temple baseball blasted 23-1 by Austin, gets no-hit by Wylie in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN - The Temple baseball team dropped another pair of pool play games in the First Texas Bank Georgetown Invitational on Friday.

Austin blasted Temple 23-1 in the Wildcats’ first game, then Wylie no-hit Temple 5-0 in the second.

“We had a rough day today,” Temple coach Larry Haynes said.

Temple (4-6) used five pitchers in the first game, allowing 23 runs on 23 hits. That included allowing three home runs and four doubles. The Wildcats trailed 11-0 after the second inning.

The lone offensive bright spot for the Wildcats was Andrew Rayas, who had a double.

In the second game, Wylie kept Temple winless in the tournament.

Starter Abe Garcia pitched four innings, allowing five runs, with Isaac Matamoros coming in in the fifth inning.

Haynes said the Wildcats need to have a good outing in today’s noon finale against Austin Akins at a to-be-determined site.

“It would help to put a solid game together - have both multiple hits and runs,” he said.
