Temple (19-2-3 overall, 9-1-1 13-5A) hosts Bryan at 7 p.m. today at Woodson Field, hoping to claim its first district title since 2002. The Wildcats need the three points they would earn by beating the Vikings to win 13-5A. A loss or tie (two points) would give Belton - which Temple beat twice in 13-5A play - a one-point advantage and the district title.
A loss Friday at College Station A&M Consolidated cost Temple a chance to clinch the title a week early. A&M Consolidated, which tied with Temple earlier in the season, handed the Wildcats their first district loss of the season with a 5-2 defeat.
In this situation last year, Bryan beat Temple, sending the Wildcats to a third-place finish.
