UIL rule negates Salado seven-run inning, gives Troy 5-2 win in suspended game

TROY - According to the University Interscholastic League, the lightning-suspended game between Troy and Salado on Tuesday night was ruled a 5-2 Trojans victory.

Salado had scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning, but lightning suspended the game with Salado ahead 9-5 and still batting with two outs.

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations rule book, a game is complete if play has gone beyond five full innings. Also, if a game is called when the teams have not had an equal number of completed turns at bat, the score shall be the same as it was at the end of the last completed inning, meaning a win for Troy, which was leading 5-2 after five complete innings.

The Trojans improved to 13-7 overall, and are tied for second place in District 25-2A with Rogers and Rosebud-Lott at 7-3. Troy plays at Rosebud-Lott on Friday.

Salado, which plays at Florence on Friday, holds a one-game lead atop the district race after falling to 17-5, 8-2.
