Coach Kirby Johnson’s Leopards (10-6) went 1-2 Friday through Sunday in Fort Smith, Ark., beating Arkansas Baptist before losing to Carl Albert (Okla.) and NJCAA No. 9-ranked Arkansas-Fort Smith.
Temple is without standout sophomore wing J.B. Conley, who has a broken ankle and could miss the rest of the season.
TC placed second in the NTJCAC last season, going 11-3 en route to a 27-4 overall record. Weatherford’s Coyotes, the reigning conference champions, are 6-9 under first-year coach Dave Donnelly.
On the women’s side, coach Kim Sebek’s Lady Leopards (7-6) carry positive momentum into their league opener against the Lady Coyotes (5-7). Playing in Waco, Temple beat San Jacinto 59-47 last Friday and defeated Paris 74-70 on Saturday.
The Lady Leopards took third in the NTJCAC last season, finishing 11-5 in the league and 17-13 overall.
