TC men, women host Weatherford tonight to tip off conference play

Temple College’s basketball teams will begin their pursuit of Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference championships when they host Weatherford tonight at TC Gym. The women’s game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30.

Coach Kirby Johnson’s Leopards (10-6) went 1-2 Friday through Sunday in Fort Smith, Ark., beating Arkansas Baptist before losing to Carl Albert (Okla.) and NJCAA No. 9-ranked Arkansas-Fort Smith.

Temple is without standout sophomore wing J.B. Conley, who has a broken ankle and could miss the rest of the season.

TC placed second in the NTJCAC last season, going 11-3 en route to a 27-4 overall record. Weatherford’s Coyotes, the reigning conference champions, are 6-9 under first-year coach Dave Donnelly.

On the women’s side, coach Kim Sebek’s Lady Leopards (7-6) carry positive momentum into their league opener against the Lady Coyotes (5-7). Playing in Waco, Temple beat San Jacinto 59-47 last Friday and defeated Paris 74-70 on Saturday.

The Lady Leopards took third in the NTJCAC last season, finishing 11-5 in the league and 17-13 overall.
