But the Cultural Activities Center clay classes are a little more than that.
The courses are structured similar to the classes at Temple College except for a few differences.
First of all, there is no grade.
Second, students “are able to go at their own pace,” said Ritchie, visual arts director for the CAC.
Ritchie said her students are able to skip around in the curriculum if they want to.
“They can jump right into the wheel work if they want, instead of starting with hand building,” she said.
The classes also cover glazing and how to work a kiln.
Students at the CAC are also able to use the studio at no extra cost outside of class time while they are registered for a class and as long as no other class is scheduled.
Ritchie said she is constantly trying to find new techniques to use and challenge her students with, but “there is so much to learn, I could never learn it all in a lifetime.”
The clay classes are set for 6 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 13-Feb. 17 and 9 a.m. Fridays from Jan. 16-Feb. 20. Both sessions are open to beginning through advanced students. Classes are $95 per student plus $12 for clay. Glazing and firing is included in the price.
