Chester A. White II

Services for Chester Allen “Son” “Pepper” “Uncle Son” White II, 90, of Temple will be 11 a.m. Monday at Branford/Dawson Funeral Home in Temple with the Rev. Ruby Freeman officiating.

Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.

Mr. White died Sunday, Dec. 28, at a Temple nursing home.

He was born on Jan. 14, 1918, to Donnie T. Alexander and Chester Allen White I in Bastrop. He attended Dunbar School in Temple. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and later served in the U. S. Army. He and a few family members opened a restaurant and later he worked at McCloskey Hospital, which became the Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Center, retiring after more than 30 years.

He was a former member of 8th Street Baptist Church until 1956, when he became an active member of The Church of the Living God, Pillar and Ground of the Truth, where he served as a Deacon. He married Elizabeth Jimmerson on July 28, 1945, and later married Mary Wells White. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and a son, Don Bruce White on Oct. 28, 1986.

Survivors include three sons, Chester White III and Larry White Sr., both of Phoenix, and Danny White of Glendale, Ariz.; a daughter, Portia White-Buze of Glendale, Ariz.; a sister, Mattie White Holmes of Denver; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with a wake 5-7 p.m.
