Girls high school basketball: Middle quarters hurt Temple in loss at Bryan; Belton can't overcome early hole vs. A&M Consolidated

BRYAN - Temple went toe-to-toe with Bryan in the first and fourth quarters, but the Tem-Cats were buried by the Lady Vikings in between en route to a 60-37 loss Tuesday night.

Temple (12-12, 1-5 District 12-5A), which matched Bryan’s 25-point output in the bookend quarters, was outscored 35-12 in the middle two periods.

The Tem-Cats had eight turnovers and only three points in the second quarter, when the Lady Vikings (18-7, 5-1) turned a 14-12 lead into a 26-15 halftime advantage.

Jourdan Truesdale scored a game-high 16 points, despite going 5-of-14 from the free throw line as part of Temple’s 9-for-22 effort from the stripe.

Sierra Flowers drained three 3-pointers for part of her team-high 12 points for Bryan.

A&M Consolidated 63, Belton 48

COLLEGE STATION - Belton dug itself a hole early and never climbed all the way out during a 63-48 loss to College Station A&M Consolidated on Tuesday night.

Belton (12-13, 2-4 District 12-5A) trailed 20-8 at the end of the first quarter and couldn’t reel in Consol (13-9, 5-1), which held a 43-36 third-quarter lead and pulled away with a 20-point final period.

Amber Peters scored 11 points and Aynsley Young added 10 for Belton. Karla Gilbert had 18 and Danyetta Williams added 15 for Consolidated.
