Lauren Muniz and Shannon Fogleman scored unassisted goals in the first half and the Temple girls soccer team survived after halftime to beat Copperas Cove 2-1 on Tuesday night at Woodson Field.
Goalkeeper Abby Blunt allowed a first-half goal and Kaitlin Muniz paced Temple’s defensive play as the Lady Wildcats moved to 8-3-1 overall and 2-0 in District 12-5A entering Friday’s game at Bryan.
“We were still the aggressor in the second half and we did what we had to do,” Temple coach Oscar Bersoza said. “This is a big week for us and we got the first part tonight. Bryan is a big game, a tough one. If we go to Bryan and get an upset win we’ll be in good shape.”
Wildcats romp to 6-0 victory at Cove
COPPERAS COVE - The Temple boys cruised to a 6-0 win over Copperas Cove on Tuesday night, moving the Wildcats to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in District 12-5A. No other information about the game was reported. Temple will host Bryan at 8 p.m. Friday.
Second half lifts Belton over Bryan
BELTON - The Belton Tigers scored five second-half goals to defeat Bryan 5-1 at Wilson-Kerzee Field on Tuesday night.
Brandon Maldonado scored unassisted in the 51st minute to tie the match at 1. Dillon Darr fed Josh Caffey to give Belton a 2-1 lead in the 59th minute. During a five-minute span, Nick Palamara scored twice on assists from Caffey and Tyler Pate before Caffey scored a goal on Vincent Crepeau’s assist. The Tigers outshot the Vikings 17-5.
“We just told them to play a little better and keep their heads up,” Belton coach Tarcisio Mosnia said about the second-half adjustments. “We had our opportunities and it was just a matter of time until we broke through.”
Belton (12-1, 2-0 District 12-5A) hosts Killeen Ellison at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Belton girls roll over Bryan
BRYAN - Chelsea Jones scored a pair of goals to help Belton cruise past Bryan 6-2 Tuesday night.
The Lady Tigers (8-1-3, 2-0 District 12-5A) led 3-1 at halftime and gave up the Lady Vikings’ only goals on a penalty kick and a free kick. Jourdan Brown, Taylor McMillan, Hadley Young and Carina Dunnahoo had one goal apiece for Belton.
“We played a pretty clean game,” Belton coach Barry Elkins said. “(Goalkeeper Kelsi Darr) was tested some, but we played pretty well."
