Girls basketball playoffs: Academy falls short against Weimar; Rogers ousted by Hempstead

BASTROP - The Academy Lady Bumblebees’ gameplan focused on stopping Weimar’s post tandem of Chelsea Soto and Jocelyn Jarmon.

But the Lady Wildcats’ role players hurt the Lady Bees the most as Weimar ended Academy’s season with a 58-41 win on Tuesday in a Class 2A bi-district playoff game.

The Lady Bees (21-9) were outscored 18-7 in the second quarter and never got back in the game.

Cortney Poncik led Academy with 16 points, Callie Chudej had 11 and Taylor Robinson added 10.

No. 16 Hempstead 50, Rogers 29

FRANKLIN - The Rogers Lady Eagles fell behind early and never recovered in a 50-29 loss to No. 16 Hempstead in a 2A bi-district playoff game.

Hempstead led 14-6 after the first, 32-13 at halftime and 45-20 after three quarters.

Rogers (20-12) was led by Brittany Luna’s eight points.
