Zach Lynch scored 21 points and Stephen Ford added 15 for the Trojans (21-13), who were making their first playoff appearance in 10 years.
But it wasn’t easy for the Trojans who found themselves down 18-7 before going on a 13-2 run before halftime to tie the game at 20.
Then in the second half, the Trojans used a press to wear down Malakoff and pull out the ten-point win.
“We just played better defense,” Troy coach David Brawner said of the second half. We slowed it down on them and I think it got them frustrated.”
The Trojans will battle the winner between Edgewood and Maypearl, which was going on later Friday evening.
Poth eliminates No. 11 Academy in overtime, 55-48
BASTROP - The Academy Bumblebees led a tight contest most of the way before falling 55-48 in overtime to Poth in a Class 2A area-round playoff game Friday night.
The 11th-ranked Bees ended their season with a 27-6 record.
Senior Kyler Kelton finished with a team-high 16 points.
