“We knew this game had playoff implications,” Temple coach Oscar Bersoza said. “And we knew Copperas Cove was going to run and gun all night.”
The Lady Wildcats improved to 12-6-1 overall and 6-3 in District 12-5A with the win, tied for third with Bryan. Cove fell to 9-10, 3-6.
Temple led 1-0 at halftime and Bersoza again emphasized the importance of the game.
“I basically told the girls that for (Copperas Cove) this was all or nothing,” he said. “Now this win puts in position where our game Tuesday against Bryan is for position. And Cove will be looking for help (to make the playoffs)"
Also Friday, the Temple boys beat Cove 6-0. No details of the game were reported.
Lady Tigers remain perfect in 12-5A play
BELTON - The Belton Lady Tigers stayed perfect in District 12-5A play with a 4-1 win over Bryan on Friday night at Wilson-Kerzee Field.
The Lady Tigers got first-half goals from Jourdan Brown and Hadley Young for a 2-1 halftime lead. In the second half, Belton took control with goals by Michelle Hagen and Chelsea Jones, who also had two assists.
“I was pleased with our play,” Belton coach Barry Elkins said.
The Lady Tigers (15-1-3, 9-0) host Killeen Ellison on Wednesday night.
