The Lobos took a 3-1 lead on Javier Arrieta’s two-run homer in the third inning. UMHB battled back with three runs in the fifth. Andrew White singled home two runs and Joseph Villegas (3-for-4) added an RBI single. Ryan Moreau added an RBI single in the sixth for a 5-3 lead.
Jared Hopper (2-1) went the distance for the Crusaders (9-6). He struck out a career-high 14 batters and allowed five hits. The teams will close out the series today with a noon doubleheader.
Ruffin, Texas down Stanford
STANFORD, Calif. - Chance Ruffin went the distance and Travis Tucker had three hits and drove in three runs to lead Texas to a 6-2 victory over Stanford on Friday.
Ruffin (3-0) struck out seven and gave up four hits and two runs for the Longhorns (11-0). Jeffrey Inman (0-2) gave up five runs in five innings for the Cardinal (2-7).
Baylor pounds South Alabama
WACO - Aaron Miller homered to help fuel Baylor’s 14-4 win over South Alabama on Friday night.
Craig Fritsch (1-1) gave up seven hits and three runs for the Bears (8-2). Matt Jackson (1-1) surrendered six runs in 3 1/3 innings for the Jaguars (5-5).
Raley powers A&M past Utah
COLLEGE STATION - Brooks Raley struck out eight batters, had four hits and scored three runs to lead Texas A&M to a 7-2 victory over Utah on Friday.
Raley (3-0) allowed five hits and two runs. Caleb Shofner homered and Luke Anders had two hits and one RBI for the Aggies (10-2). Andrew Wilding (0-2) surrendered six runs and seven hits in six innings for the Utes (5-5).
