Truck slams into Temple hotel

Temple Fire and Rescue officers remove debris from the second floor of the Marriott Residence Inn off in Temple, Texas after an 18 wheeler carrying mechanical parts ran off Interstate 35, through a parking lot and up an embankment, sending the truck more than 8 feet into the air and into the side of the building. Fifty people were evacuated from the hotel and the driver was taken to Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple with non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
An 18-wheeler veered off the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 about 8:45 a.m. today and landed in a room on the ground floor of the Residence at Marriott on South General Bruce Drive in Temple.

The two occupants of the room were unhurt; they were at breakfast, according to Brad Hunt of the Temple Police Department.

The driver could not immediately be freed from the vehicle, and firefighters and police officers were working to remove him.

The driver of the truck was removed at 10 a.m.

The white trailer with blue lettering was about half-way inside the room on the south side of the building.

The entire hotel was evacuated about 9 a.m.

So many fire units were dispatched to the hotel that by 9:45 a.m. firefighters from other area agencies were being asked to cover specific regions of Temple in the case of fire.
