“Lock’s pitching was the story,” said Temple coach Larry Haynes, whose team rebounded from its 19-1 home loss to Copperas Cove last Friday. “He threw a complete game and had good control tonight.”
A leadoff home run to K.J. Stark would be the only run Lock would allow, but by then the Wildcats already had a 2-0 lead as Nich Crosswhite had a two-run blast in the top of the first.
The Wildcats then scored three in the third and two in the fourth to pull away from Ellison.
“We got some timely hits in those innings,” Haynes said. “And we turned some double plays on defense to get out of the innings in the fourth and fifth. Overall it was a good game.”
The Wildcats will be at Harker Heights on Friday and hope to carry the momentum of the win into that contest.
“Nothing will be easy for us,” Haynes said. “But this is a good momentum builder."
