The bioscience district is seeking to become a taxing entity and the ballot reads: Authorizing the Temple Health and Bioscience Economic Development District to impose an ad valorem tax not to exceed the rate of 15 cents per $100 valuation of all taxable property in the district and to issue bonds payable in whole or in part from the ad valorem tax.
However, the bioscience district board of directors has decided, if the measure is approved by voters, the board will not set the initial tax higher than 2.5 cents per $100 valuation.
The Belton school district has a $38.9 million bond referendum for a new middle school and capital improvements to the technology infrastructure and athletic facilities.
For the first fiscal year of the bond program, plans are for financing to be structured to have zero impact on the tax rate. However, in fiscal year 2011, a home with a value of $100,000 would realize a projected maximum increase of about $78 in school taxes, or an additional 7.8 cents per $100 valuation.
School taxes on resident homesteads are frozen (upon request) the year a taxpayer turns age 65 and will not increase as a result of this bond election.
Voters will also be going to the polls in Rosebud-Lott, Killeen, Copperas Cove, Milam County, Salado and Harker Heights.
