ITW announced its board of directors has rescinded an earlier decision to divest its decorative surfaces segment, which includes Wilsonart, and other related, international businesses.
“Given the continued weak acquisition market and conditions and premium value of these businesses, the company decided to discontinue the sales process and return the business to continuing operations,” a written statement reported.
Company spokeswoman Alison DeMartino said in an e-mail Temple operations are unaffected by the announcement.
“There’s a lot of enthusiasm out there for what Wilsonart is doing this year - not only in new design but also in product performance,” Ms. DeMartino wrote.
An example of Wilsonart here in Temple can be found at the new Horny Toad Harley-Davidson dealership on Interstate 35. Owner George Lee selected the company to manufacture a mahogany floor for the apparel show room and other departments.
In 1956, Ralph Wilson Sr. built from scratch Wilson Plastics here in Temple. Today, Wilsonart International employs about 2,500 nationwide, including 1,300 in Temple.
The company specializes in laminate floors and countertops, and adhesives for residential and commercial customers.
