Belton will hold July 4 pageant

BELTON - The first Miss Fourth of July Pageant will be held on June 13 at the LaQuinta Inn and Suites in Belton.

This pageant was created to get the youth of Bell County involved with the Fourth of July, said organizers Jennifer Emerson and Kendra Boren. The event is not an official part of the Belton Fourth of July celebration, but the winners will participate in all events hosted by the Belton Chamber of Commerce.

The deadline to enter the pageant is June 1. Entry fee is $50 per contestant. The divisions for the pageant are first through fifth grade, sixth through eighth grade and ninth through 12th grade. Divisions are determined by the grade contestants will enter in fall 2009.

Registration requires that each contestant live or go to school in Bell County and that each contestant be respectful and kind to pageant staff and other participants.

The judging criteria will be volunteerism, interview, patriotic wear, introduction and evening wear. Each winner will receive a crown, sash, trophy and cash award.
