Baseball roundup: Willis, Tigers stop Rangers' hot streak; Bush, Brewers beat Astros

DETROIT (AP) - Dontrelle Willis earned his first victory with the Detroit Tigers and stopped the red-hot Texas Rangers’ seven-game winning streak, allowing one hit while working into the seventh inning in a 4-0 win Tuesday night.

Willis (1-0), the former All-Star who began the season on the disabled list because of an anxiety disorder, struck out five in 6 1/3 innings in his second start since coming off the DL. The victory extended Detroit’s winning streak to four games.

Texas’ Brandon McCarthy (3-2) allowed all four runs and nine hits in the seven innings. Jeff Larish and Gerald Laird had sacrifice flies for the Tigers and Miguel Cabrera added an RBI double in the seventh.

Brewers 4, Astros 2

HOUSTON - Dave Bush pitched six solid innings to remain unbeaten and Trevor Hoffman earned his 10th save, leading Milwaukee over Houston for its seventh straight win.

J.J. Hardy drove in two runs for the Brewers and Prince Fielder had an RBI and scored two runs. Bush (3-0) allowed two runs and seven hits for the National League Central leaders, who have won 13 of their last 15.

Hoffman set down the Astros in order in the ninth to improve to 10-for-10 on save chances.

Kaz Matsui stole home while Houston teammate Michael Bourn was in a rundown, and relief pitcher Russ Ortiz hit an unlikely homer for the Astros.
