Big 12 baseball tournament: Texas rebounds by blasting Kansas; Baylor bows to K-State

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Brandon Belt and Cameron Rupp homered and Chance Ruffin threw a four-hitter as top-seeded Texas bounced back from a surprising loss to beat Kansas 9-3 Thursday at the Big 12 Tournament.

A day after the Longhorns (39-13-1) opened with a loss to eighth-seeded Baylor, Belt provided a 2-0 lead with his eighth home run of the season. Rupp added a three-run shot off Kansas starter T.J. Walz (8-2) as the lead grew to 6-0 in the fourth inning.

Ruffin (9-2) cruised from there, striking out six in the third complete game of his sophomore season.

It was the second straight defeat for the Jayhawks (37-21), who opened with a 5-4 loss to Kansas State.

Baylor bows to Kansas State

OKLAHOMA CITY - Kansas State roughed up Baylor starting pitcher Willie Kempf on its way to a 9-4 victory Thursday at the Big 12 Tournament.

Kempf (4-5) gave up five runs and seven hits in only four innings. The Bears (28-24) trailed 7-1 before scoring three runs in the sixth.

Justin Bloxom hit his ninth home run of the season for the Wildcats (41-15-1).
