Top-ranked Howard wins Junior College World Series, completes 63-1 season

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - No. 1-ranked Howard College scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning and defeated Santa Fe (Fla.) 7-4 late Friday night to win the Junior College World Series and complete its season with a 63-1 record.

The Hawks of Big Spring went 5-0 at Suplizio Field in winning their first NJCAA Division I national championship since 1991.

Howard was undefeated until its 58th game, when No. 20 Temple College beat the Hawks 8-2 in the Region V Tournament in Fort Worth.

Howard defeated the Leopards 4-3 in 10 innings the following day to win the regional title and advance to the World Series.
