Severson, a sophomore, cleared 14 feet, 7 inches to win the Region IV title and is one of only three 14-foot vaulters in the field.
His biggest competition could come from Sudan’s Charleson Steinbok (14-6), who was eighth last year, and Iraan’s Hewitt Holmes (14-0), who was fourth a year ago.
The Class A boys pole vault is scheduled for 9 a.m. today.
Troy’s Luke Randolph will need a career day to medal in the 2A boys discus.
After posting a mark of 152-4 to win the Region II title, Randolph will go head-to-head with reigning state champion Sean Reagan (182-0) of Idalou, defending silver medalist Andrew Hudson (187-1) of Bushland and Altair Rice’s Christopher Dorsey (174-5).
The 2A boys discus is scheduled for 9 a.m. today.
Troy’s Stephanie Rauch will try to improve on last year’s fifth-place finish when she competes in the 2A girls discus.
Rauch’s regional-winning throw of 118-4 was an inch better than her best toss at state last year.
She’ll need an even better throw to top defending bronze medalist Emily Edwards (134-11) of Cisco, Poth’s Kelsey Titzman (134-1) and a trio of girls with marks in the 125-foot range.
The 2A girls discus is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today.
Academy’s Andrew Sodek will be looking for a better result when he competes for the second straight year in the 2A boys pole vault.

Grand Saline’s Colton Ross (14-7) has the field’s best mark. Ballinger’s Kris Strube, Queen City’s Casey Yount and Big Sandy Harmony’s Kolby Hogan all have cleared 14-6.
The 2A boys pole vault is scheduled for noon today.
Bruceville-Eddy’s Greg Bostick will need to trim about 2 seconds off his Region II runner-up time to have a chance at a medal in the 2A boys 800-meter run.

The 2A boys 1,600 is scheduled for 8:55 p.m. today.
Killeen’s Michael Cummings won the Region IV title but will have to drastically improve if he hopes to be on the state medals podium in the 4A boys discus.

The 4A boys discus is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today.
Killeen’s Tiara McIver will be a long shot to medal in the 4A girls triple jump.
McIver leaped 36-9 to finish second in Region IV and even her best mark of 38-7¾ is well back of defending champion A’Lexus Brannon (42-½) of Beaumont Ozen, Mount Plea-sant’s Destiny Smith (39-10½) and Mansfield Legacy’s Winifred Ileso (39-1¼).
The 4A girls triple jump is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. today.
Killeen must quicken its pace to keep up in the 4A boys 400 relay.
The Kangaroos team of Kevin Brown, Jaquail Haskins, Lemarquis Jones and Mitchell Salak posted the slowest regional time (42.63) of the eight qualifying squads. Defending champion Angleton (41.53) will be pushed by Waxahachie (41.13), Houston North Forest (41.82) and Lancaster (41.85).

The 4A boys 800 is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today.
Killeen’s Rhontae Scales will cap his high school career in the 4A boys shot put before heading to Texas A&M to play football.
He has some work to do if he hopes to go out with a medal. His throw of 53-11½ that gave him second at the Region IV meet ranks seventh and won’t be worth much against Red Oak’s Preston Sanders (59-9), Mission’s Jesus Alvarez (57-6½) and Wichita Falls’ James Chambers (57-2½).
The 4A boys shot put is scheduled for 7 p.m. today.
Killeen’s Jaquail Haskins and Lemarquis Jones went 1-2 at the Region IV meet but rank 7-8 in the state field for the 4A boys 100.

The 4A boys 100 is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. today.
Killeen will have to improve dramatically from the Region IV meet to keep from getting embarrassed in the 4A girls 1,600 relay.

Killeen is at least 5 seconds slower than everybody but fellow Region IV and District 25-4A competitor Austin Lake Travis (4:00.50).
The 4A girls 1,600 relay is scheduled for 9:05 p.m. today.
Killeen Ellison’s Bobbie Williamson had to settle for bronze at the regional meet but will get the chance to compete in the 5A girls discus.
Williamson was added to the field this week when defending state champion Skylar White of DeSoto withdrew from the competition. Williamson ranks eighth and will have to improve on her season-best throw of 130-11 from the 5A Region II meet to threaten Mesquite Horn’s Kelsey Samuels (147-0), reigning bronze medalist Taylor Rosser (144-0) and Fort Bend Austin’s Jennifer Edwards (140-6)
The 5A girls discus is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Harker Heights’ Melissa Mays will try to duplicate her magic from the Region II meet when she competes in the 5A girls triple jump.
Mays (39-10½), who won the regional title on her final jump, is a medals favorite in a field that includes defending champion Dallas Rose (41-8½) of Pearland and Galena Park North Shore’s Whitney Johnson (39-6).
The 5A girls triple jump is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday.
Harker Heights’ Aliese Hyde will try to improve on last year’s bronze medal when she runs for the second straight year in the 5A girls 800.

Jones was second at the Region II meet in 11.84 but has run 11.44 this season. Dallas Skyline’s Tiffany Hines (11.53) and Fort Bend Hightower’s Franchelle Hill (11.66) are also sub-11.70 sprinters.
The 5A girls 100 is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Saturday.
Killeen Shoemaker’s Chaniqua Corinealdi has as good a shot as any competitor to medal in the 5A girls 200.
Corinealdi’s regional time of 24.11 is second only to Region II champion Kimberlyn Duncan (23.46) of Houston Cy-Springs. Arlington’s Pamela Vinson (24.19) will also be a factor in the podium chase.
The 5A girls 200 is scheduled for 7:25 p.m. Saturday.
