Mrs. Porter died Friday, June 5, in an Eastland hospital.
She was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Hamilton to Bob and Kate Waggoner Riley. She married George H. Porter, Sr. Oct. 5, 1948, and he preceded her in death. She graduated from King Daughters nursing school as a RN. She continued her education at Purdue University in Indiana with a B.S. degree in Nursing Administration. She worked as a Public Health nurse, Pediatric nurse supervisor. She retired with 50 plus years nursing as supervisor at VA hospital in Temple. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rotan, was active in the choir, bible studies, Wednesday morning prayer group, and the ladies SS class. She was also a member of the Stevens ministry and was a founding member of the foundation Methodist church in Temple.
Survivors include a son, George “Hal” Porter, Jr. of Cisco; a daughter, Deborah “Debi” Wehba of Sweetwater; a brother, Jack Riley of Temple; three sisters, Ida Sue Gardner of Hamilton, Martha Henkes, both of Hamilton, and Mary Lou Straughan of Plano; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Riley Funeral Home in Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
