Toastmasters honored for leadership

Two members of local Toastmasters clubs have earned recognition in leadership. Toastmasters International has granted the Advanced Leader Bronze Award to Matt Mathieson of the Big T Toastmasters Club and Janet Scherer of the Texas Stars Toastmasters Club.

The Advanced Leader Bronze Award requires that individuals complete a Competent Communicator Award with 10 speeches. It also requires that a 10-project Competent Leader Award be finished. Each ALB recipient has served as an officer in their respective clubs for at least a six-month term and has presented two training sessions from the Club Success and/or Leadership Excellence series provided by the Toastmaster organization.

Mathieson served for several terms as his club’s sergeant at arms. He is currently serving as president of Big T Toastmasters in Temple. Scherer served for several previous terms and is currently secretary of the Texas Stars Toastmasters in Belton.

The Big T Toastmasters Club meets on Tuesdays at 12:05 p.m. in the Temple College Downtown Center. The Texas Stars Toastmasters Club meets on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. in the portable building at Christ the King Catholic Church in Belton. For information about Toastmasters, call 541-6039.
