Lampasas Associated for the Arts donated the piece to the garden to honor the children of the Lampasas community. The garden, which currently features 12 sculptures, is open to the public and free of charge.
“Pegasus” is Ms. Haggard’s second sculpture in the garden and it joins five other sculptures on permanent display.
In 2005, the artist carved “Lampasas Furniture” at Hanna Springs and “Pegasus” was one of five sculptures that came to Lampasas as part of the Art in the Park 2008-09 exhibition.
Ms. Haggard was born and raised in the Dallas area and her work is represented in private and public collections.
“I have always been inspired by ancient sites and the architectural ruins of past civilizations,” Ms. Haggard said. “‘Pegasus’ has its own familiar story from antiquity which I had no part in creating. Being a stone artist, I chose different colored marble for it so that it truly stood apart.”
The sculpture garden was founded in 2005 by LAFTA. Each year, the group sponsors an exhibition of sculptures chosen by an independent jury.
