Retired Brig. Gen. Ron White, director of Texas State Veterans Homes, delivers the keynote address Sunday during the SPJST Flag Day Celebration at the William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home on the grounds of the Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Center in Temple. Brian Vanicek, president of the SPJST, said celebrating Flag Day as a way of promoting patriotism is something the fraternal organization has been doing “for generations.” Sunday’s event also included the reading of the winning SPJST Flag Day Youth Essay Contest entry as well as a presentation to the veterans home.
