Area second-team selections included Rockdale’s Chance Betchan and Mark Drake, Rogers’ Cameron Doskocil, Salado’s Garret Ward and Troy’s Justin Gregory.

Hoelscher, a second-team all-state selection, led the District 12-5A co-champion Tigers in nearly every offensive category as they reached the Class 5A Region II quarterfinals. He had a team-best .441 batting average, 33 runs batted in, 37 runs and seven home runs.

Hoelscher’s 15 doubles tied for the area lead. He closed out the season with 22 hits in his final 37 at-bats.

Betchan earned honors at first base, boasting a .436 batting average and an area-leading 48 RBI to go with nine doubles and four homers. Drake, a senior third baseman, batted .400 and scored an area-best 44 runs.

Gregory garnered honors at catcher, batting .456, scoring 34 runs and driving in 34. Gregory, a junior, hit three of his seven homers in the unbeaten 16-2A champion Trojans’ final two games.

Ward, a starter on Salado’s 2008 2A state championship team in the outfield, returned as the team’s offensive force as a senior. He batted .428, scored 40 runs, drove in 35, stole 22 bases and tied for the area lead with 15 doubles while starting at third base.

Ward was also selected to play in the THSBCA’s Class 3A-and-under All-Star Game on Saturday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

Doskocil, a key member of Rogers’ 2007 2A state championship team, earned honors playing error-less defense first base. A senior who has committed to play next season at Mary Hardin-Baylor, Doskocil had a batting average of .479 that ranked second in the area, tied for the area lead with 48 RBI and scored 39 runs. He was also named to Saturday’s THSBCA All-Star Game.

Sebek, a senior center fielder, batted .404 and was second in the area with 26 stolen bases. Marek, a junior third baseman, hit .462, drove in 34 runs and stole 23 bases for unbeaten 25-2A champion Rogers, which advanced to the Region IV semifinals. Marek and Doskocil shared 25-2A’s MVP award.
