Burial will be in Copperas Cove City Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Hebert died Sunday, June 21, in a Temple Care Center.
Sidney was born November 18, 1921, to Sidney Casimer Hebert and Florestine Davis Hebert in Napoleonville, La., where he was raised and educated. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, worked at the sugar refinery and later the Huggins Shipyard in New Orleans prior to joining the U.S. Army on Sept. 21, 1942. On Dec. 28, 1945, he married Margaret Philomena LeBlanc and she preceded him in death Dec. 22, 1995. He served in World War II, the European Theater, Korea and Vietnam with the 716th MP BN Vietnam. While serving he received the Army Commendation Medal (second Oak Leaf Cluster); the Army Good Conduct Medal with four loops; the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Medal with Palm; the Safe Driver Badge; the National Defense Service Medal; Sharpshooter (pistol, carbine and rifle); the Vietnam Service Medal; the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; the World War II Victory Medal; the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon; the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and the Army Meritorious Unit Citation. He retired on Dec. 1, 1969. Following retirement he worked for the Bell County Sheriff’s Department and remained there until 1982.
Survivors include two sons, Sidney C. Hebert of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ralph J. Hebert of Killeen; two daughters, Beverly M. Rivera of Killeen and Carla K. Kunze of Lampasas; eight grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, in memory of Sidney Hebert, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
