Camp kids work together as pirates on the ropes, cheering each other on and learning to depend on each other.
There were about 200 campers, 30 medical volunteers and 30 parent volunteers, one of whom, Austin resident Tory Atkins, said he takes a week of vacation every year to come to the camp.
“My No. 1 reason for coming out here is my son is a type 1 diabetic,” he said. “We learned more at this camp than we had all year about his diabetes.”
The camp is operated by the Children’s Diabetes Camp of Central Texas, Peaceable Kingdom and the volunteers.
