O’Rear, a Baylor signee who won his third consecutive Class 2A individual state championship last month as the Eagles repeated as team champions, shot 79 in the first round Thursday. His 36-hole total of 11-over 153 at Miramont Country Club tied eight other golfers for 78th place in the 139-player field. The top 54 qualified for the weekend rounds.
James Sacheck of The Woodlands shot a 64 Friday and leads the tournament with an 8-under 134 score, five strokes better than Lufkin’s Will Griffin, Houston’s Johnathan Schnitzer and Fort Worth’s Travis Woolf.
