Fire causes power outages, shuts down schools in Jarrell

JARRELL - A fire inside a lumber store caused widespread power outages today (Tuesday) in Jarrell and forced the shutdown of the Jarrell Independent School District.

According to Williamson County spokeswoman Connie Watson, the fire started around 1 a.m. in the Danek Lumber store at 201 N. Fifth St. Ms. Watson said the fire caused power outages to the “entire incorporated city-area.”

The fire was contained at around 7 a.m., and Oncor had responded to scene, she said. By 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Ms. Watson said power had been restored to about “90 percent” of the town.

The fire spread to several utility poles, which also caused the town’s telephone service to go down. The Jarrell ISD closed its campuses because of a water shortage in the area near the fire.
