David Evans Jr.

BELTON — David Evans Jr., 70, of Salado died Saturday, June 20, at his home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Salado with the Rev. Randy Carder and the Rev. James Haney officiating.

Burial will follow in Salado Cemetery.

Mr. Evans was born on Dec. 3, 1938, to Emil David “San” Evans Sr. and Geraldine Etheridge Evans in Oglesby. He married Laura Dean Humphrey on Aug. 28, 1964, in Belton. He graduated from Temple Junior College in 1959; received a bachelor’s in 1961; received a masters’ degree in 1967 from Southwest Texas State; and his postgraduate work at the Killeen Campus.

He taught at Nolan Middle School in Killeen for 44 years. He was the Talented & Gifted (TAG) Coordinator. He received numerous awards from KISD, and he received an Excellence in Teaching award from the House of Representatives and also from the Governor House of Representatives and Senators. He served on the Bell County Historical Commission for 20 yeas as Marker Chairman for the County.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years of Salado; a son, Jeffrey David Evans of Salado; a daughter, Jennifer Anne Mays of Peachtree City, Ga.; a brother, Sam Evans of Belton; a sister, Sandy Scully of Temple; his mother of Temple; and three granddaughters.

Memorials may be made to Scott & White Hospice, 5701 Airport Road, Temple, 76502.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Belton.
