Killeen was the ninth-fastest growing city in the country among cities with 100,000 or more people during the 12-month period, the bureau said.
Temple grew by 2 percent, and Bell County grew by 3 percent. Killeen grew by 4 percent.
The fastest-growing city in the nation last year was New Orleans, which was up by more than 8 percent but not yet to pre-Katrina levels.
Round Rock, between Temple and Austin, was second-fastest growing. The population rose by 8.1 percent. McKinney and Fort Worth were also in the Top 10.
In terms of numerical growth, New York led the nation by adding more than 53,000 people. Between April 1, 2000, and Wednesday, New York had added more than 350,000.
