Knowing the right first steps: Dancers to give demonstration at 2009 Bridal Showcase

Cinderella waltzed with her prince. So did Snow White. And both did it as we learned “they lived happily ever after.”

So when brides call In the Mood Ballroom, Karen and Rudy Gonzales know the importance of what they are asking.

“Most people think about the wedding dance in the last three months of their planning,” Mrs. Gonzales said. “Some people give it a year … Then we have the people who call us three days before the wedding and say, ‘We really need to learn how to dance, now.’ We help them all.”

The Gonzaleses will demonstrate waltzing - both country and the kind that Disney princesses do - at the Temple Daily Telegram’s Bridal Showcase on Sunday.

The Showcase will be open 1-5 p.m. at the Frank W. Mayborn Civic and Convention Center in Temple. Tickets will cost $10 at the door.

The Gonzaleses will take the floor for their first demonstration about an hour after the doors open. Though their talents are extensive, Mrs. Gonzales said they understand not everyone wants to be a professional dancer.

“One bride called me and said, ‘I don’t want to do the prom dance at my wedding,’” Mrs. Gonzales laughed. “It doesn’t have to be over the top, elaborate. You just have to be able to dance to your song. There’s a connection in dancing that you make during dancing that couples look for in their wedding.”

And the Showcase will be filled with every other thing that brides and couples “look for in their wedding.”

The Temple Daily Telegram’s Courtney Pietsch said the event will feature more displays than last year and will be a greater variety.

Everyone attending will be able to get information from spas and salons, stationery services, party and specialty rentals, jewelers, bridal gown and tuxedo stores, photographers, venues, caterers, bakeries, musicians and music providers, event planners, travel agents, bridal registries, and health, personal care and makeup specialists.

Each registered bride will receive a free wedding planner and there will be more than a dozen door prizes available that include free photography sittings, gift certificates at local bridal stores, a mini getaway salon package and free tuxedo rentals.

The Gonzaleses will perform three dance demonstrations before and in between bridal style shows by Georgio’s Bridal and Formalwear in Waco and Bride’s Request & More in Killeen.
