There’s time to say ‘bye-bye’

Kim MacAfee (Corrie Hermans) wants everybody in her hometown of Sweet Apple, Ohio, to know that she and Hugo Peabody are going steady. That is, until she meets rock-and-roll singer Conrad Birdie in the musical “Bye Bye Birdie.” Scott Gaulin/Telegram
He doesn’t know if it’s the nostalgia of the 1950s show or if it’s just a lot of fun, but Temple Civic Theatre’s Tim Campbell said people have filled the seats for this summer’s “Bye Bye Birdie” - and it’s going to play one more week.

“People seemed really tuned in to the high energy of this show,” he said. “And at the end of its set run (which ends with a sold-out matinee today), more than 1,600 people will have seen it.”

The newly scheduled shows will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 2.

“But this will be it,” Campbell cautioned, adding that reserved tickets are $20 each. They are available Tuesday through Friday at the theatre, 2413 South 13th St. in Temple.
